Madison Chapter Luncheon

The Madison Chapter of the Veterans Association of the
Chicago and North Western Railway held their Annual Luncheon at Rex’s Innkeeper
in
Chapter President Don Mundth called the meeting to order and thanked all for attending, especially those from other chapters. An introduction of the following Association General Officers and Chapter officers who were in attendance were made: General President Dan Sylvester (also President of the Kenosha-Waukegan Chapter),Yvonne Sylvester, Secretary/Treasurer of the Kenosha Waukegan Chapter, Dewayne Stiefvater, General Secretary Treasurer (also Secretary/Treasurer for the Milwaukee Chapter), Jack Holloway, President of the Milwaukee Chapter. and Bob Guhr, Webmaster for the cnwvets.org website, former General President, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Chicago Chapter.

President Mundth asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of members who have passed including former Madison Chapter Vice President Leo Karasek.
The excellent luncheon, consisting of Swiss Steak, Pork Chop or Baked Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, cole slaw, rolls and butter and carrot cake was served and enjoyed by all.

provided some jokes. He reported the
association is actively recruiting new members.
Anyone who has ever worked for the Chicago and North Western is eligible
for membership, no matter their length of service. The Milwaukee Luncheon will
be held at Aliotos in
After lunch, President Mundth reported the Chapter’s finances were in good shape. Mundth challenged all in attendance to think about ways to attract new members for the Association as membership overall is declining.
Next year’s luncheon will also be held at Rex’s Innkeeper in
Tickets were drawn for door prizes. Lots of door prizes were awarded. Thank you to all who donated prizes or cash for the door prizes.
This years raffle included an array of prizes including a birdhouse donated by W. C. Moseley, a metal replica of an old steam locomotive, a wooden replica of a steam locomotive, two railroad pocket watches, two C&NW Flambeau Series plates donated by Larry Bunce, a Stuart Buck print of the C&NW donated by Chris Burger, a birdhouse, a butterfly house a napkin holder, several other handcrafted items and the natural wood colored steam locomotive all donated by Duane Van Haren. Thank you to those who donated prizes for the raffle. I extend a personal and special “THANK YOU” to Duane Van Haren for his generous donations. Thank you to all who purchased raffle tickets which made this years raffle very successful.
Thank you to Larry Bunce of Railroad Relics who set up a display of C&NW collectibles and books for perusal by the attendees and for his donation of door prizes. Last and certainly not least, Thank You to Yvonne Sylvester for taking all the pictures.
