And…they thought it was bad back then!

In 1923, former Indiana Senator Albert J. Beveridge was quoted by the press as follows: 

“Government supervision and interference with life and activities bids fair to break down popular

self-rule.  Consider this appalling fact.  One adult person out of every 20 persons engaged in

business or industry in the United States is a government agent, official or employee either

federal, city, county or state.  Another astounding fact, twin sister of the first, is that Americans

are forbidden by law to do more things and by law forced to do more things than were

 the Russian people under the Czar or the German people under the Kaiser.”
