This year was different from last in that Yvonne and I didn’t have to spend the morning loading vehicles with stuff to take to Van Patten Woods.  Everything was right where we needed it, in our back yard.  All we had to do was put up the canopy, set out the tables and put the stuff on them.  It was much easier than moving those heavy picnic tables around at the park.

Attendance was about half of what we had last year.  Sixteen members and seventeen guests for a total of thirty-three.  We had plenty of good stuff to eat, fried chicken, Italian sausage, pulled beef, and plenty of “Pot Luck” items.  There was soda, beer and a do it yourself bar for refreshments.  If anyone left hungry or thirsty it was their own fault.

After dinner we had an informal business meeting.  We did out best to get fired but the same officer’s stand for next year.  We voted on changing the price to do away with the $3.50 kid’s price due to the need to have quarters for change.  Adults remain $7.00 and children under twelve are now $4.00.  This should have minimal effect on the pocket book as there were no children at this year’s picnic.  It was decided that next year, 2010, on Sunday, July 18, the picnic will once again be held in our back yard.  It seems most felt more comfortable and at home.  We’re glad and happy to do it as it means a lot less work for us.

Being as how attendance was down we didn’t make a profit on the raffle this year but our treasury is in good shape.  Next year we may have to down size on the gifts somewhat.  One of the prizes was Jim Yanke’s new book on the Air Line Subdivision - it was won by Jim Zorbas.  Dick Moesler made another one of his “400” step stools and Diane Koppleman took that home with her.  There were plenty of other goodies too.

One of the nicest things was after the raffle everyone didn’t just take off like they usually do.  Folks stuck around awhile. We built a fire in the fire pit on the patio and all sat around socializing for some time.  It was nice. Hope more of you can make it next year.
