MINUTES:

A joint meeting of the Green Bay--C&NW Veterans and the local NARVE chapters was held at the Titletown Restaurant on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010.

Meeting opened at 9:00 am with the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting by the President of the Green Bay Chapter---C&NW Veterans Association.

Legislative representative, Dick Piontek, gave his report.

Notice was given on the recent passing of retired Green Bay District switchman, Ira Hurlbut on 12/31/09 ---who donated his body to science.

One of the members brought a clipping from the Green Bay Press-Gazette indicating that in 1929, the 3 railroads in Green Bay had 2,000 employees.

Of Green Bay's 35,000 residents in 1929, 13,000 depended on the rail industry for income and support.  Or, nearly 1/4th of the area's population.

This information was shared with those who were in attendance.

Open discussion followed, during which time mention was made that the Railroad Retirement Board reports that the current railroad retiree lives to age 82, on average.

10 members attended this meeting.   Coffee and rolls were served.

Our next monthly meeting (after our current February 17, meeting)  will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010  at 9:00 am at the National RR Museum
