Green Bay Chapter Luncheon

The Green Bay, Wisconsin Chapter of the Veterans’ Association of the Chicago & North Western Railway held its annual luncheon on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the Rock Garden Supper Club in Green Bay. We had 63 attendees, which is 2 more than last year.

Our guests included Dan and Yvonne Sylvester. Dan is General President and President of the Kenosha/Waukegan, Yvonne is Secretary/Treasurer. Don and Joan Mundth. Don is President of the Madison Chapter and Joan is Secretary/Treasurer. Also, Adams Chapter President Keith Luebke and wife Beverly, General Secretary/Treasurer Dewayne Stiefvater and wife Phyllis, and Board of Directors members Caryl Braaten, Rod Ewert, Gordon Geil and Bob Guhr. Others attending from out-of-town were: Jerry Kettner and guest – Milwaukee; Curtis, Irene and Earl Schmidt - Greendale and New Berlin; and Ed & Alice Rivard –Hartford.

Green Bay area railroaders who have passed on since our last meeting were remembered. Robert Lincoln, Conductor - March 19, 2007; John Hanson, Switchman - March 2007; Charles Hellem, Division Superintendent, Traffic - Sept 2007 and Ken Toutloff, Storeroom, Green Bay - Sept 2007. Bob Bengrey, Chief Clerk at Green Bay, was reported seriously ill with inoperable cancer. Bob resides at Germantown, WI.

After introducing Chapter officers – Vice President Herb Hessil, Secretary/Treasurer Bob Meehan and Legislative Representative Dick Piontek - we held a short business meeting. The current Green Bay Chapter officers indicated their willingness to serve another term and were therefore declared re-elected. We don’t have a “lock” on these jobs and are certainly willing to share the duties. Others are more than welcome to come forward and offer.

The Rock Garden Supper Club did their usual fine job and our meal consisted of beef tips, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables, which was well received by our members and guests.

General Secretary/Treasurer Dewayne Stiefvater provided us with an up-to-date Green Bay Chapter membership roster, this being very helpful in keeping track of the former Upper Peninsula Chapter, which merged with the Green Bay Chapter. Dewayne mentioned a few of us are behind in our dues and if any member is unsure of what he owes – just send Dewayne $25.00 and he will tell you when it’s used up. Our current Green Bay membership now stands at 115.

Music and entertainment was provided by Dan and Yvonne Sylvester. Dan and Yvonne are from the Kenosha-Waukegan Chapter and have added a very nice touch to our meetings for the past 3 years. And, a special Thank You to Yvonne Sylvester for taking all the pictures.

Following the entertainment, door prizes were handed out. It was announced that our next monthly chapter meeting will be held at the Titletown Brewery, 200 Dousman Street, at 9:00 am on October 17, 2007 at which time our chapter's treasurers report will be given.

A good time was had by all and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
