Wisconsin Division Engineer Bob Fisher retired February 27, 1981. His son, Illinois Division Conductor Bob Fisher, found some pictures of that occasion which we are happy to post.

Bob grew up in Eagle Grove, Iowa where his father was a C&NW engineer on the Northern Iowa Division and Bob’s first railroad job was on the Eagle Grove Section Gang. Later, on June 9, 1941, Bob hired out as a fireman on the Wisconsin Division. During World War II, he was assigned to the Railroad Battalion and served in Alaska among other places. He returned to the Wisconsin Division after the war, was set up to engineer on February 14, 1946 and retired off an Elk Grove job on February 27, 1981. We are very pleased to report that Bob is active and doing quite well at the young age of 89.


Bob receives his Retirement Plaque from Elk Grove Trainmaster Phil Leitherer on February 27, 1981. Phil is now Superintendent at Global One. Prior to Tony’s retirement, this crew had the most seniority of any Wisconsin Division crew – 143 years.
